Current Research: While studying abroad at the University of Sydney, I’m working in a near-infrared light therapy lab under Dr. Daniel Johnstone that primarily focuses on Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease in mouse and rat models. I specifically work on examining the pathology of Alzheimer’s disease in mice treated with near-infrared light only on the body, avoiding transcranial light. Through the process of cryostat slicing, staining of amyloid plaques, and microscopy, we examine the effectiveness of treatment.
My thoughts on neuroscience education: Neuroscience is where I feel at home and where I feel like my efforts are best suited. I’m so interested in understanding how each molecule in the brain contributes to the output of behavior and how disorders of the brain cause these molecules to fail to function. This interest leads me to focus on neurodegenerative disorders, like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, and I hope to continue doing research in this field.
