Current research: I am investigating the co-prevalence and common histopathology of age-related macular degeneration and Alzheimer's disease (A.D.), the leading causes of irreversible blindness and cognitive impairment in the U.S., respectively. I hope to identify retinal biomarkers that may serve as early indicators of Alzhiemer’s as well as elucidate possible shared genetic factors and pathological mechanisms between these two neurodegenerative diseases.
My thoughts on neuroscience education: I've really enjoyed learning about the molecular mechanisms that underly how we are able to function and interact with our surroundings, and I love that I was able to dive into research by the end of my freshman year. I don't think I know another major whose students genuinely love their major as much as Neuro majors do!
