Study Yields Clues about Immune System, Post-op Neuroinflammation

Inflammation is a normal immune response to a bodily injury, whether from accident or surgery. But sometimes the post-operative immune response may also lead to neuroinflammation, causing complications such as delirium delirium and other perioperative neurocognitive disorders. Scientists, including DIBS Faculty Network Member Niccolò Terrando, Anesthesiology, recently published findings in Nature Immune about the mechanisms involved, which may help lead to therapeutics. The research was supported, in part, by a DIBS Incubator Research award.
