Graduate Student Consortium
On July 20, 2020, the DIBS Graduate Student Consortium welcomed Duke alumna Heather Dean for a virtual discussion about science policy careers. Dr. Dean is currently the Acting Assistant Director for Acute Injury Devices at the FDA. During the career session, 24 attendees learned about Dr. Dean's experience with the AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowship, her advice about planning for a career in the government, and her insights on experiences she had at Duke that helped her transition into policy. Students from Neurobiology, Psychology & Neuroscience, and more were excited to learn how their scientific expertise could be applied to create change outside the lab.
