Brian Hare and Walter Sinnott-Armstrong Awarded $1.54 Million Grant to Study How We Can All Get Along and The Origins of Conflict

Congratulations to DIBS faculty members Brian Hare, professor of evolutionary anthropology, and Walter Sinnott-Artmstrong, Chauncey Stillman professor of practical ethics in philosophy, along with Michael Muthukrishna of the London School of Economics, who were awarded a $1.54 million grant from the John Templeton Foundation.

The team’s project will take an interdisciplinary approach at studying the evolution of comity: why are some people amicable, whereas others opt for animosity? The grant will connect a diverse group of scientists from several countries, disciplines, and institutes to explore this this question about humanity through the lens of evolutionary biology, philosophy, and psychology.
